Sorry for missing the last two days, orientation started (meaning waking up much earlier), coupled with a few other things meant I had to choose between blog and sleep.
Sleep is good.
Anyways!
The japanese night life is *insane*
I have not gone clubbing, bar hopping, partying, or any other sort of alcoholic "ing" during my stay in japan.
But just from walking around at night and then returning home (and remember, the subways here stop running at twelve so I have to head back fairly early), you get this sense that every single person that can be outside and on the streets is.
I find myself to somehow be without photos of these sort of events (something I will remedy), but the streets at night here (in a place like shinjuku for instance) are busier than almost any place in new york *any time of the day*, save perhaps time square at it's busiest. Then they'd be about equal.
And most of the shops are closed too! What are they all doing? Where are they all going?

haha... wall of photos...
Oh yeah. You know cicadas? Well they call them semmi over here. And they exist in HUGE NUMBERS. At night they are very very loud. In the daytime... they are also very very loud. Maybe sometimes at dusk they quiet down a bit? Maybe? I don't know.

Oh well. I like em anyways.

Oh, yeah, also you can't walk and smoke at the same time. There are designated smoking areas for that. Also you can't walk and eat either. I mean, you can, it's not illegal or anything, but you're considered to be a bit of an ass if you do. I want to walk and eat... *sigh*.

One *really* cool thing about walking around tokyo is you get to see these spider sentinels from time to time. Really big, sometimes piloted from the inside, or by remote control, these are the newest toys of the tokyo police. Mostly used for monitoring the population, they also can administer stun gas, rubber bullets, and help in the event of a tsunami, earthquake, or any other natural or man made disaster. Sadly civilians can't buy them. tch.

Up up upupupuppupupuppp.... aand...

Tokyo! As seen in the dusk of a hot day in a settling sun. Not setting yet, just sort of settling.
Tokyo is gigantic. It makes me feel very tiny. It also makes manhattan seem very tiny. HOW WILL I SEE IT ALLL??
Ok. sleepy. I shall inform you about how orientation went tomorrow. Or something...
Miss everyone! Alot! Japan rocks alot though! Night!
